About Me
I’m Josh Owen. I recently moved to New York, NY after graduating from Rutgers University with a double major in Computer Science and Economics where I was co-captain of the Ice Hockey team, and received the Ralph L. Taylor ‘43 Unsung Hero Award. While in school, I worked at a startup in the sports collectibles industry for 3 years as a Senior IT Analyst, and currently work at a big bank as a software engineer.
I’m currently working on a high performance web framework and toolkit suite using ExtJS and Asp.Net MVC. Before this I was part of a portal development team as a frontend engineer and created developer productivity applications on the side.
At the startup I developed their inventory management system automating data entry using a web crawler. I also created a secure portal for clients to view their consignment information and items’ status in real-time and integrated this with the inventory management system using a set of secure APIs. I also developed many other smaller applications including an online store based on osCommerce, a contest site using eBay’s APIs, and a tool for selling our items on multiple venues (on our site and eBay, although it would scale to other sites as well).
In college I developed network-centric Java applications. Some were a BitTorrent client and a distributed simulation tool with byzantine node detection with and without a Law Governed Interactions middleware. I was a group leader in both of these projects. My responsibilities included designing the system architecture and programming. I excelled in Internet Technology, Computer Security, Operating Systems, Database Management, and Distributed Systems courses.
I enjoy traveling, playing Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Sailing, Fishing and generally being outdoors.

My name is Steve Demick and I work for two Rutgers Alumni who started a company here in Edison, New Jersey called Flexible Architecture and Simplified Technology (“FAST”). These individuals had previously grown a company to about 300 persons and that company, NaviSys, was acquired by Accenture.
We are a year into this start-up and are looking hard for an individual with ExtJS skills. I couldn’t help but notice you have those skills; are a Rutgers’ Alumni and from New Jersey. If you are interested please feel free in contacting me – sdemick@fasttechnology.com – or if you know of someone else with similar skills, please feel free to pass my e-mail address along.
Thanks. I enjoyed looking at your blog!
