After two trips of fishing from the shore, I decided if I wanted to go after the big fish, I needed a boat. I’m a college student so I don’t have a lot of money for a boat, but I saw that many of the houses on the lake had canoes. I figured that might be a good idea for me. I can leave it on the car, fish after work, and take it home for the winter (Hopefully I can throw it in my aunt’s barn). The real selling point for a canoe was that I don’t have to buy gas.
One of my flaws is that I am extremely impulsive, especially when shopping. If I decide I need something, I just go out and buy it. I don’t waste a lot of time on research. I knew a few things about canoes, because I grew up kayaking, and the two are pretty similar. So I went on craigslist and checked out canoes. I saw that there was an Old Towne listed for 400 dollars, and it had a roof top carrying kit. This seemed like a good buy, since I knew that Old Towne’s are good boats. I did a little research (no more than 20 minutes on Google), and made up my mind. This was the boat for me. I emailed the seller and made sure it was still available (Which it was). I decided this was the type of purchase I should talk to my father about, since he knows more about small boats than I do, and he said it sounded like a good buy.
