Everyone Goes Skiing in Portland Except Me and Mark

June 13, 2009 11:30 pm

We all woke up around the same time and drove to a Walmart.  Mark and I decided to hang out in the RV while everyone else went skiing.  We weren’t feeling too hot from the previous few days, and decided it was a good idea to just hang out and see what was in the area.  Everyone else was pretty gung-ho on skiing since they’re on the Rutgers Ski Team.  Mark and I made friends with the parking lot security guard and made sure he saw that we purchased something there.  We watched goofy looking high school kids getting ready for prom and went to Carl’s Jr.  It was pretty good, but it was no In-N-Out Burger, I miss that place already.

We were both really hurting from the Great Balls of Fire.  I’ll spare you the details, but it was not a pleasant day.  We didn’t really make it out of the RV just napped and told jokes.   Not a bad day.  And hey, if we didn’t stay, we probably would have gotten towed.  There were pretty clear signs telling us not to park there.

Everyone came back a while later, they said the skiing was ok, but there were lots of goofy looking people out there, so that made up for it.  And they got to ski in shorts.  We then drove to Seattle and got to our RV Park.

Portland – The Leatherman Factory – Great Balls of Fire

June 12, 2009 11:27 pm

We woke up to the cleaning lady trying to clean the room.  Whit got some food last night so we ate brownie bites.  We headed out looking for breakfast and found a place called the Hotcake House.  This was an Oregon style establishment.  The guy at the counter referred to everything in terms of millions of dollars.  He looked like he might be a bum, but a stern one.  Then we saw him come out and he was wearing tie dye bellbottoms.  It was strange.  But the food was good, and we got it pretty quickly.  I think the strange wait staff definitely added to the experience.

The Leatherman factory is located in Portland.  We headed there after eating.  Whit needed to get his Leatherman cleaned, and I wanted to get one.  When we got there we heard that the factory tours were booked up until October, so we wouldn’t be going on one of them today.  But we did go to the factory store, and looked inside of the factory, lots of women working on assembling great tools.  Whit dropped his off, and they cleaned it and shipped it back to his house for free.  That is a warranty you can be proud of.  I got a Juice CS2 for $25 down from something like $80 because of a cosmetic blemish that I still can’t find.  They also had lots of free bumper stickers so we grabbed a few of them.  I was a little upset they didn’t have any shirts in my size.  We stayed there for a while and Whit ended up getting another knife, but eventually got bored.  I mean we can only hang out in a Leatherman store for so long, actually I take that back.  I could be there all day, Danielle got bored.  She picked up the same Juice I got.
