Everyone Goes Skiing in Portland Except Me and Mark

June 13, 2009 11:30 pm

We all woke up around the same time and drove to a Walmart.  Mark and I decided to hang out in the RV while everyone else went skiing.  We weren’t feeling too hot from the previous few days, and decided it was a good idea to just hang out and see what was in the area.  Everyone else was pretty gung-ho on skiing since they’re on the Rutgers Ski Team.  Mark and I made friends with the parking lot security guard and made sure he saw that we purchased something there.  We watched goofy looking high school kids getting ready for prom and went to Carl’s Jr.  It was pretty good, but it was no In-N-Out Burger, I miss that place already.

We were both really hurting from the Great Balls of Fire.  I’ll spare you the details, but it was not a pleasant day.  We didn’t really make it out of the RV just napped and told jokes.   Not a bad day.  And hey, if we didn’t stay, we probably would have gotten towed.  There were pretty clear signs telling us not to park there.

Everyone came back a while later, they said the skiing was ok, but there were lots of goofy looking people out there, so that made up for it.  And they got to ski in shorts.  We then drove to Seattle and got to our RV Park.

Albuquerque, New Mexico

May 27, 2009 11:31 pm

We woke up and headed for New Mexico, but we made sure to pick up some spray paint and visit the famous Cadillac Ranch. It is a bunch of old Cadillac’s half buried in the ground. They have been spray painted on by almost everyone that’s visited and that gives it almost an inch thick layer of protection. We left our marks on the cars, and headed out. We stopped by a few little shops along the way, but didn’t see anything too cool. There were some interesting billboards, my favorite was one that said “Pornography Victimizes women and children and is not welcome in our community.” This was not more than 100 feet from the Adult Video store, which was advertising the Fleshlight.

In New Mexico, we saw the sign for Roswell, but decided against going. We did stop at a shop advertising Indian Crafts, but everything they had was really cheesy. They had throwing knives, so Whitson picked them up, because, hey, you never know when you could use them. (They were cheap, and not of the best quality.)

We woke up and went to get Coffee at the Cafe DuMonde.  I got a black coffee and split some French donuts.  They were both very good.  We wandered around the area, and I stepped in the Mighty Mississippi.  There were musicians everywhere, and it was nice.  The market by the water was cheesy, and everything around there was over priced, but that was what we expected.  Whitson got an alligator claw back scratcher.  We went to Mothers for lunch and got Po Boy sandwiches and Jambalaya.  The employees there were so lazy, and it can seat so many more people than they let in, but I guess that’s part of the atmosphere.  We wandered around a bit more, and passed the casino.  Mark wanted to spend the rest of the day there, but we hopped on a trolley and went back towards the car.  We decided to make a stop at the graveyard to see Walter, but when we got there, we couldn’t find him.  Larissa eventually asked someone if they knew where he was, and they said that he doesn’t really work here and is a bullshit artist.  So I guess he really was lying to us with his stories, but they were funny.  We still wanted his tour of the place, because we didn’t care about facts, we just wanted to be entertained, and that’s what he did last night.

Packing the RV

May 22, 2009 11:53 am

Ethan came and woke me up at about 7am to tell me that we were pouring concrete.  We had to pour a pad for a new home in the park, and do some general maintenance/chores.  It was an interesting day.  I learned another thing I’m not particularly good at, pouring concrete.  I got a little better at it as time went on, but was still just purely mediocre at it.  I’m much better at moving concrete than leveling it :) .  After pouring the pad, we had to go around and pick up some lawn clippings.  Ethan’s dad drove around a dump truck and we hung on the sides and grabbed bags of leaves and clippings then dumped them at the end.  I was MUCH better at this job.  His dad took us out to breakfast to thank us for the help.  We went to The Block, or the Vineland Produce Auction, and we saw the auction taking place which was cool, I’d never seen an auction happen that way.  The food was really good, and it was a trucker spot for the most part, especially because it was right inside the auction area.
